Journalists' Solidarity in Alanya Increased Eid Longing

The period of uncensored publishing, which started with the declaration of the Second Constitutional Monarchy on July 24, 1908, continues to be remembered as Journalism and Press Day in the Turkish press. However, due to the professional difficulties and economic uncertainties experienced today, journalists are far from celebrating this meaningful day in a festive atmosphere. Making a statement on behalf of the Alanya Journalists Association (AGC) Management, AGC President Gaye Coşkun stated that July 24 has now become a symbol in which demands for professional solidarity and freedom are expressed rather than a celebration.

Urgent Call for the Press Professional Law

Pointing out the uncertainty of financing sources and judicial pressures for the sustainability of the sector, Coşkun stated that a legal regulation is essential for the future of the profession. Referring to Turkey's place in the press freedom rankings and the increasing disinformation problem with digitalization, Coşkun said, "A Press Professions Law is urgently needed to eliminate these negativities we have mentioned. Within the scope of this law, the profession should be defined by law, updated according to developing technology, financial sources should be defined and freedom of thought should be protected. Then, July 24 will become a real holiday for us again." he said.

The Future of the Sector Depends on the Law

Stating that manipulation-oriented publications carried out under the identity of journalism with developing technological opportunities have caused great harm to the profession, Coşkun reiterated his emphasis on professional solidarity by congratulating all press workers who work by adhering to the principles of the press.
