Antalya Basin is on alert to prevent our future from drying up

The Antalya Basin Water Board Meeting, organized in order to secure the water future of the region and minimize the negative effects of climate change, was held under the chairmanship of Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin. In the critical meeting held in the Meeting Hall of Antalya Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry; agricultural irrigation decisions, environmental inspections, wastewater treatment facilities, closed irrigation systems and xeric landscaping practices were discussed comprehensively.

Critical Measures Against Drought Risk

At the meeting, field applications of the decisions taken by the Antalya Agricultural Drought Provincial Crisis Center and Water Efficiency Certification Studies were evaluated. In the session, where attention was drawn to the risks faced by underground and aboveground fresh water resources and the seas, the contributions of local governments to the process were clarified. In line with the aim of protecting the region's water resources and transferring them to future generations, the projects carried out and planned in the provinces of Antalya, Burdur and Isparta were presented.

Emphasis on Water Before the Climate Summit

Pointing out that water sensitivity is a vital point before the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Summit, Governor Şahin stated that water resources are at the focus of all studies. In addition to Şahin, the meeting held with wide participation included the deputy governors of the regional provinces, Antalya Deputy Secretary General of the Metropolitan Municipality Çiğdem Hacıoğlu, Akdeniz University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Şükrü Özen, Science University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hülya Şimga, Deputy General Manager of Water Management Satuk Buğra Fındık and relevant institution managers
