Antalya Governorship, Zero Waste Foundation and Antalya Blue Mediterranean Initiative, was held at Phaselis South Port. At the event, Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin and Zero Waste Foundation President Samed Ağırbaş examined the projects carried out on combating marine pollution on site and made statements to the press.

Barrier Will Be Established at 29 River Mouths

Noting that marine pollution should be prevented at its source, Governor Şahin announced that barriers will be placed in 29 river mouths across the city to prevent plastic waste from reaching the sea. Stating that the application will be expanded with the contributions of the Metropolitan Municipality, sponsors and supporting companies, Governor Şahin emphasized that this title of the city with the most blue flag beaches will be preserved by increasing the number of technical systems such as garbage traps and sea vacuum cleaners.

Global Cooperation Against the Microplastic Threat

Zero Waste Foundation President Ağırbaş stated that more than 8 million tons of plastic enters the seas annually and that individuals are exposed to 5 grams of microplastics weekly, and that new campaigns will be carried out under the leadership of the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum and a comprehensive campaign against plastic pollution will be implemented in Antalya. He stated that mobilization has been started.
