Mukhtars Renewed Their Strength in the Academy Ranks

The Mukhtars Academy Training Program, which was implemented under the auspices of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the Antalya Governorship and Akdeniz University, started with a ceremony. The program, which was prepared to increase the institutional capacities, communication skills and legislative knowledge of headmen working in rural and urban neighborhoods, was carried out with intense participation. Speaking at the opening of the training program, Governor Şahin emphasized that the position of headman is the position where information is needed most in the field. Stating that knowing the legal framework is critical in overcoming the difficulties encountered in the field, Şahin stated that the limits of the powers offered by the state must be understood. Pointing out that wrong steps could cause trouble for both muhtars and their regions, the Governor stated that when the power of the state is used within the legal framework, muhtars will be better equipped and the academy will provide this legal basis.

Antalya province's wide geography and agricultural potential was highlighted, the versatile duties of headmen in rural areas were reminded. It was stated that headmen play critical roles in their neighborhoods, such as agricultural officials, security representatives and experts, and that citizens see the state directly in the headman, regardless of the institution. Stating that the headmanship functions as a bridge in the Turkish administrative system, Governor Şahin emphasized the thousands of years of historical origin of this institution, adding that it is one of the most important building blocks of state organization and that it will continue its existence by constantly taking new positions according to changing needs.
