Three-Dimensional Good News for Mediterranean Fishermen

Antalya Within the scope of the Artificial Reef Project carried out under the coordination of Metropolitan Municipality, 35 artificial reef blocks designed with three-dimensional software technology were launched off the coast of Muratpaşa district Düden Waterfall. Governorship, municipality and university officials participated in the program organized within the scope of the Antalya Blue Mediterranean Initiative to protect the marine ecosystem and increase biodiversity.

Eighty Thousand Square Meters of New Living Space

Making a statement to the press during the launch program, Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin stated that the fishing rate in the city does not even reach two thousandths of the average in Türkiye. Stating that the metropolitan municipality has been carrying out meticulous artificial reef work for two years in order to change this picture, Governor Şahin stated that 35 artificial reef blocks were brought to the sea in the first stage, and that the works will be offered to the service of sea creatures in an area of 6 thousand square meters in the first stage and then in a total area of 80 thousand square meters.

The Desert Image in the Deep Waters Ends

Antalya Blue Mediterranean Emphasizing that the Initiative has been continued with determination since the beginning of 2026, Şahin noted that the seagrass revitalization project has been implemented together with non-governmental organizations for the revival and restoration of damaged marine life. Stating that thanks to these studies, the desert appearance in the bottom waters of the beaches will come to an end, Şahin added that the sea bottoms will literally turn into an aquarium.

In addition to the Governor Şahin and his wife, Initiative Project Coordinator Ebru Şahin, Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality Büşra Özdemir, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Advisor Lokman Atasoy, Finike Deputy Mayor Ömer Özdemir, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Şakir Fırat Erkal, Mediterranean Fisheries Research, Production and Training Institute Technical Coordinator Dr. Mehmet Ali Turan Koçer, Mediterranean University Faculty of Fisheries Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Olgaç Güven and Turkey Underwater Sports Federation Provincial Representative Taner Şahakalkan attended.
