ALKÜ Joining Hands to Break Down Barriers

Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University is undertaking a comprehensive program to increase social awareness and strengthen the culture of inclusive life. "We Are Stronger Together Awareness Week", which will be held within the scope of 10-16 May Disability Week, will be held with a rich content with the support of local institutions. ALKÜ Disabled Student Coordinatorship will contribute to the process carried out by Alanya District Governorship, Youth and Sports District Directorate, Alanya Youth Center and Touch of Life Community.

The week-long events will start on Tuesday, May 12, with a promotional stand and comprehensive Erasmus opportunities presentation. Following the awareness games to be held on the same day, Turkish Beyazay Association Chairman Lokman Ayva will come together with the students and share his experiences. On the third day of the program, accessible campus mapping and "obstacle hunt" activities will be carried out. The event series will be held on Friday, May 15th, in cooperation with Alanya Youth and Sports District Directorate. It will be crowned with the Traditional Accessible Festival.

Social Awareness and Inclusive Life

ALKÜ Disabled Student Coordination Office emphasized that individuals with special needs are stakeholders with independent and equal rights in all areas of society. In the statement, it was noted that approximately 15-16 percent of the world's population consists of individuals with special needs, and it was stated that this process is not only an individual but also a social responsibility. It was noted that all events to be held with the aim of developing empathy, inclusive education approaches and creating accessible living spaces are open to the public and participation from all ages is expected.
