Antalya Metropolitan Municipality opened a special exhibition within the scope of European Heritage Days 2026 events in order to preserve the city's deep-rooted cultural heritage and transfer it to future generations. In the organization that opened its doors at the Cumhuriyet Square Exhibition Area, geographically registered Döşemealtı handmade carpets, dating back to approximately 800 years, were presented to the visitors. The exhibition, which features the arduous production process from wool to carpet and traditional motifs, can be visited until November 30.
The World's Oldest Carpet Awaits Its Visitors
In addition to the city's centuries-old carpet weaving tradition, the exhibition also includes a rare work of great importance for world textile history. Just like the Döşemealtı handmade carpet, the world's oldest carpet, the Pazırık Carpet, which is woven with the Turkish Gördes Knot technique and is said to have a history of approximately 2500 years, is also presented to art lovers within the scope of the exhibition.
