Alanya Security Revolt on the New Ring Road

The consecutive traffic accidents on the Alanya Eastern Ring Road, which was opened on December 20th with the participation of the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, are causing great reactions. Although only five months have passed since it was put into service, many accidents, including two fatalities, have raised deep doubts about the safety and technical adequacy of the road. Key Party Alanya District Chairman Abdullah Akkuş made a harsh statement on the issue and argued that the painful losses experienced were not a simple coincidence, but the result of a chain of negligence. It was stated that the project, which is expected to ease transportation, poses a fatal risk rather than a benefit for the people of Alanya with its current deficiencies.

Communication Crisis and Neglect in Fatal Accidents

In fatal accidents, young people lost their lives by falling into open gutters on the side of the road without any safety precautions, revealing the lack of control in the region. Mayor Akkuş stated that there are no security cameras in the tunnels and telephone networks have no reception, and emphasized that in the event of a possible accident, citizens are completely disconnected from the outside world. Stating that this atmosphere of uncertainty, in which it is not possible to even determine how the accidents occurred, deeply hurts the public conscience, the authorities stated that it is unacceptable to open the road to transportation before all security elements are completed.

Call for Urgent Solution and Investigation

Akkuş, who demanded urgent steps to be taken to make the road safe for Alanya, shared his solution suggestions with the public. It was stated that open gutters on the roadsides should be closed immediately, active camera systems should be installed in all tunnels and emergency communication infrastructure should be fully provided. While the technical adequacy of the ring road was requested to be re-examined by independent expert committees, an urgent investigation was called for the administrative and technical officials responsible for the accidents that have occurred so far.
