Alanya's Future is Secured with a Huge Budget Project

Alanya is hosting a huge environmental investment that will prepare urban and tourism planning for the future. The climate adaptation project, prepared under the leadership of Alanya Municipality, in partnership with Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (ALKÜ) and Atalay Climate Environment Consultancy Limited Company, was entitled to receive grant support with a budget of 210 thousand Euros within the scope of the Pathways2Resilience (P2R) Program financed by the European Union. The project aims to increase the institutional and technical resilience of the city against the negative effects of climate change.

Climate Change Adaptation Capacity Will Be Increased

Thanks to this project supported within the scope of the European Union's Climate Change Adaptation Mission, a comprehensive climate resilience planning process will be implemented in the city for the first time. Within the scope of the studies, risk assessments, social fragility mapping and broad stakeholder participation will be carried out and a Strategy, Action Plan and Investment Plan will be developed. The project will fully align fundable local actions with Turkey's Climate Law and National Adaptation Strategy, while prioritizing equitable resilience, especially for vulnerable groups.

University and Private Sector Cooperation

The giant project is carried out by Civil Engineering Department Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. on behalf of ALKÜ. Dr. While Murat Aksel will undertake it, Climate Change and Zero Waste Manager Sevda Çapa and Project Manager Environmental Engineer Ayşe Erbayrak will manage the technical process at the municipality wing. Alanya Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik stated that the project will be carried out meticulously as a three-part consortium and thanked ALKÜ Rector Prof. for his contribution to the work. Dr. He thanked Kenan Ahmet Türkdoğan and the consultancy firm with which he partnered. Rector Türkdoğan emphasized that they will continue to produce scientific projects for the development of the region, which is a tourism and agriculture city.
