Reaction from the Region to the Winter Obstacle to Capital Flights
The claims that AJet will stop its Alanya-Gazipaşa Airport flights in the winter season attracted the reaction of the business world and citizens of the region.
Hearings that AJet airline company will suspend its Ankara flights from Alanya-Gazipaşa Airport for approximately 5 months starting from October have created concern in the region. The possibility of completely stopping the flights, which were reduced from 5 days to 3 days a week during the summer period and whose current occupancy rates are around 95 percent, was considered unacceptable in terms of the region's economy and transportation.
Flight Hours Hurt the Business World
It was stated that the current regulation schedules of flights on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays are far from meeting the needs of the region. It was emphasized that citizens who had official institutions or business meetings in the capital could not return on the same day, as the departure from Ankara was at 11.25 and the return was at 13.25. A call was made for the city leaders to act jointly against the decision to close the line, which operates with high occupancy rates despite the negative travel hours, in winter.
Road Trouble and Transportation Difficulty
It was stated that if Alanya, Gazipaşa and Anamur districts are directed to Antalya Airport, the 140-kilometer highway distance exceeds 4 hours during busy periods. It was requested that the air transportation link between the region and the capital, which provides a high amount of foreign currency inflow to the country's economy, be maintained uninterruptedly and sustainably throughout the year.
