Climate Champions Set Global Vision at Antalya
Antalya hosted the COP31 Summit, which outlines the roadmap for global climate action, with high-level international participation.
COP31 High-Level Climate Champions (CHLC) Meeting was held with the participation of Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin and his wife Ebru Şahin. At the summit, which was held with wide participation at the international level, it was aimed to transform the vision of the Global Climate Action Agenda for the next five years into concrete outputs and to create a strategic roadmap.
Joint Action for Global Goals
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Antalya Member of Parliament Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, President of the Zero Waste Foundation and 31st Session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Samed Ağırbaş, the High-Level Climate Champion of the Conference of the Parties, and the United Nations Turkey Coordinator Babatunde Ahonsi took part in the meeting. In addition, UNICEF Representative to Turkey Paolo Marchi, United Nations Special Adviser Selwin Hart and Vice President of the Young Diplomacy Association Ömer Tayyip Erdoğan and many local and foreign guests also contributed to the process. Governor Şahin and Deputy Çavuşoğlu drew attention to the strengthening of multi-stakeholder cooperation, while the participants exchanged ideas for the effective inclusion of non-state actors in the process.
Zero Waste Vision Discussed
At the summit, evaluations were made to disseminate the Zero Waste approach, developed under the leadership of Emine Erdoğan, as a global tool in the fight against climate change. During the day-long sessions, the first decade was analyzed and new financing and support mechanisms were examined in depth. This important meeting held in Antalya; It laid a strong foundation for the creation of vital outputs such as the Non-State Actors Strategy Paper and the High-Level Climate Champions Joint Declaration.
