Ankara and Removing a Giant from the Academy for the History of Syedra

Following the official contacts, the delegation went to the Ancient City of Syedra, which is of great importance for the tourism and history of the region, and examined the field work carried out on site.

Detailed Field Investigation in the Ancient City

During the excavations, which continue with the permission and support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, ALKÜ Tourism Faculty Lecturer and Head of Excavations Prof. Dr. H. Ertuğ Ergürer guided the delegation. Ergurer; He presented detailed information about the colonnaded street, the baptismal cave, the bath complex, the parliament building and the 164 square meter floor mosaic depicting the 12 tasks of Herakles. During the inspection, monumental stairs, water infrastructure systems, olive workshops and cisterns were also introduced to the delegation. After the examinations in the field, Özveren stated that the scientific studies carried out were of great importance in terms of preserving the cultural heritage and bringing it into tourism, and thanked the excavation team for their devoted work.

Expressing his satisfaction with the visit, Rector Türkdoğan stated that every new discovery in the ancient city creates excitement in the world of science and archeology. Emphasizing that he follows the work closely, Türkdoğan thanked the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums and all stakeholders for their contributions to the project. At the end of the visit, Türkdoğan presented a gift to Özveren in memory of his contributions.
