Alanya Experienced a First in Health

Alanya has achieved an important surgical success in the field of health. DMEK (Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty) surgery, which can only be performed in selected medical centers throughout Türkiye and is popularly known as "seamless corneal transplantation", was performed for the first time in the region. Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (ALKÜ) Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Six patients have regained their health so far within the scope of the operations performed by Fuat Yavrum.

Diseased Tissue is Replaced Through Small Incisions

Providing information about the technical details of the method, Assoc. Dr. Yavrum stated that during the transplant, only the innermost diseased layer is targeted instead of the entire cornea. Emphasizing that the application takes place on a tissue of approximately 20 microns, which is one-fifth the thickness of a hair, Yavrum stated that the operation is performed through small incisions with local anesthesia, so patients can achieve rapid visual recovery and return to their daily lives in a short time.

The Need for Out-of-City Shipment is Ended

Assoc. Prof. drew attention to the importance of surgical practice for the people of the region. Dr. Yavrum stated that patients who need corneal transplantation will no longer have to go to centers outside the city. Yavrum thanked the hospital management and surgery team for their contribution to the supply of the necessary medical equipment and noted that advanced corneal treatments will continue in Alanya.
