Banana Producers' Eyes and Ears on Joint Decisions to Be Made

Mediterranean Region Banana Consultation Meeting was hosted by the Anamur Banana Producers Association with the broad participation of sector stakeholders. Producer unions in the region showed great interest in the meeting, the first of which was held in Alanya district last year. Gazipaşa Chamber of Agriculture President and Alanya Banana Producers Association President attended the organization where the future of the sector was discussed and expressed the demands of the producers.

Production Costs and Import Problem

At the critical summit, imported banana entries, which directly affect the market share of the domestic producer, were examined in depth. The pressure of increasing production costs on producers and the recent instability in product prices were the main agenda items of the meeting. Participants agreed that standardization in harvesting processes would both increase quality and prevent price fluctuations.

Common Steps for a Sustainable Banana Industry

Solution suggestions were evaluated with determination in order to give the banana sector a stronger and more sustainable structure. Alanya Banana Producers Association President and other chamber representatives stated that joint steps that will protect the labor of the producers will be implemented as soon as possible. At the end of the meeting, it was hoped that the new season would be fruitful for all producers and stakeholders.
