Historical Visit from Çatalca Delegation to Alanya City Council

Çatalca Mayor Erhan Güzel visited Alanya City Council with a delegation consisting of deputy mayors and neighborhood headmen and met with City Council President Nurhan Özcan and Executive Board members. At the meeting, where Alanya Deputy Mayor Murat Levent Koçak also took part, historical ties between Alanya and Çatalca, common cultural values and strengthening the solidarity between the two cities were discussed.

The Spiritual Heritage of the Balkan Wars

The foundations of the brotherhood between Alanya and Çatalca date back to the Balkan Wars in 1912. The memory of the Mehmetçiks who set out from Alaiye to defend the homeland and fell martyrs in Çatalca lands creates a deep bond between the two cities. Alaiye Martyrdom, located in Çatalca, continues to symbolize the common history and sense of loyalty of the two cities.

Alanya City Council protects this historical heritage by visiting Çatalca every year within the scope of the Çatalca Alaiye Martyrs' Commemoration Program launched on the 100th anniversary of the martyrs.

Message of Loyalty and Unity from the Presidents

Speaking during the visit, Alanya City Council President Nurhan Özcan stated that the friendship between the two cities is strengthened by a common history and sense of loyalty and that they will continue the commemoration programs with the same sensitivity every year.

Çatalca Mayor Erhan Güzel stated that Alanya and Çatalca are united around the legacy of the beloved martyrs and said, "The commemoration program that Alanya City Council has been continuing for years plays a very valuable role in keeping our brotherhood alive. I would like to thank Mr. Nurhan Özcan and the members of the Executive Board."

Meaningful Gift Presentation

At the end of the visit, Mayor Erhan Güzel presented the handmade products produced by Çatalca Women's Cooperative to Nurhan Özcan. Nurhan Özcan presented Güzel with a portrait of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk prepared with three-dimensional relief technique. The program ended after mutual thanks.
