Alanya's Education Project is on the World Stage
The "Olive Branch Open Air Classroom" project, implemented by Alanya Municipality and District Directorate of National Education, in cooperation with Hamit Özçelik Primary School and Secondary School, achieved an international success by being published in the Education for Sustainable Development compilation prepared by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The project, which is among a total of 8 case studies selected from our country within the scope of environmental programs carried out under the coordination of Turkey Environmental Education Foundation (TÜRÇEV), was shown among the examples of good practices that contribute to sustainable development goals. Great Praise for the Education Model in Geneva

In line with the call of the institution, within the scope of the 2026 Regional Forum for Sustainable Development held in Geneva on 21-22 April 2026; Best practices related to the goals of clean water, clean energy, industry, sustainable cities and partnerships were evaluated. The education model, which is the third Eco-Schools study in the publication, was developed by Alanya Hamit Özçelik Primary School with the support of the local government. The project attracted attention as an innovative system that enables students to actively participate in nature-based, experiential and interdisciplinary learning processes.

The support given by the municipality under the administration of Alanya Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik to education investments and environmental projects has been registered in the international arena with this success. The local government, led by Mayor Özçelik, stated that they will continue similar collaborations in order to increase environmental literacy in the city.

Eight Thematic Stations were Established

Work that brought international success; It consists of eight thematic learning stations: theatre, mathematics, science, gastronomy, art, traditional games, open library and agriculture area. Thanks to these areas, students' cognitive, social-emotional and psychomotor developments are supported with a holistic approach, while theoretical knowledge is reinforced with practical activities. The project is carried out with the joint contributions of the school administration, teachers, students, parents and the municipality; It contributes to the development of environmental literacy, biodiversity awareness, healthy living habits and energy efficiency skills. The fact that the project, which is a concrete result of the strong partnership established, was cited as an example at the international level, demonstrated the power of the city in the field of education.
