Call from Alanya Tourism Professional for Equal Tax Deduction
ALTİD President Cem Özcan demanded that the tourism sector be considered as a service exporter and benefit from tax advantages equally.
Alanya Touristic Operators Association (ALTİD) President Cem Özcan pointed out that the tourism sector did not receive the support it deserved in tax regulations. Emphasizing that the sector should be considered as a service exporter, Özcan stated that it is essential that tourism professionals also benefit from the tax reductions provided to exporters. Referring to the planned changes to the Corporate Tax Law, Özcan stated that if these advantages also include tourism, the sector will be given a significant breath of fresh air.
Demand for Equal Support for Foreign Exchange Earning Sectors
Reminding that tourism is a strategic source of foreign exchange for the Turkey economy and that it feeds more than 60 sub-sectors by generating an annual income of approximately 60 billion dollars, Özcan stated that not being able to benefit from the tax advantages provided to goods exporters is a great deficiency. Underlining that the reduced corporate tax rates applied to manufacturers and general exporters should also include the tourism sector, Özcan argued that all areas that generate foreign exchange should be supported equally.
VAT Imbalance Challenges Businesses
Also pointing out the imbalance in VAT practices in the sector, Özcan stated that the application of the VAT rate of 1 percent in food purchases to 10 percent in sales creates a serious cost burden on businesses. Stating that this difference is not sustainable, Özcan requested that the tax regulations be revised in favor of the investor. Stating that the contribution of tourism to the country's economy is increasing in line with Turkey's 2025 targets, Özcan added that it will play a critical role for the sector to effectively benefit from Eximbank loans and incentives.
