Özcan: Alanya Tourism's Eyes Are on VAT Discount
ALTİD President Cem Özcan announced that he found the 60 billion lira support package and the reduction in accommodation tax promising for the future of the sector.
Alanya Touristic Operators Association (ALTİD) President Cem Özcan made evaluations about the 60 billion TL tourism support package implemented by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the accommodation tax reduced to 1 percent as of May 1, 2026. Özcan stated that these steps are a critical intervention for the tourism sector, which has been struggling with increasing costs and global competitive conditions for a long time.
Hoteliers' Hand Will Be Strengthened in Global Competition
Stating that the extension of the practice that encourages the conversion of companies' foreign currencies into Turkish lira until July 31, 2026 gives confidence to the markets, Özcan noted that these steps are vital for sustainability. Particularly in regions such as Alanya, whose economy depends directly on foreign tourist flow and foreign exchange inflow, easing the financial burden on businesses will increase their competitiveness by providing a price advantage in international markets. In this way, it is expected that hotels in the region will maintain their employment capacity and survive without reducing their service quality.
VAT Deduction Request is Next
Emphasizing that tourism is a strategic area that exports services, the president of the association stated that they expect the positive step taken in the accommodation tax to be continued in the VAT regulations. Expressing his satisfaction that the sector's demands were met by the relevant authorities, Özcan said; He thanked the Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek and the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy. He added that, as ALTİD, they will support every step that will take Turkey tourism forward and will continue to follow the demands of hoteliers in Ankara.
